Rating: 1/4 --
Even if you wander into this congealed mess with nothing more demanding in mind than to spend a little time with two charming favorites, do not expect Forrest Gump or Pretty Woman.

This film is the cinematic equivalent of a marshmallow. It's soft and fluffy, but it leaves you unsatisfied and hungering for more after you consume it.

There's no deep message. No complex characters. No moments of high drama, no inspired speeches. But the pictures are pretty, the story is sweet and it's told by a top-notch team of Hollywood pros. It's not great; but it sure is likable.

Women's Voices for Change
Tom Hanks directs himself in this, and also wrote the original script, so if you ever thought you can't have too much Hanks here is something else to blow your mind: you so, so can.

Larry Crowne could be subtitled, "My Big Fat Mid-Life Crisis."

Larry Crowne is more than a missed opportunity. It's alarmingly, depressingly out of touch.

Rolling Stone
To pluck romantic comedy from the jaws of a social crisis is a laudable project, worthy of Preston Sturges, and it's a pity that this featherlight drama-written by Tom Hanks and Nia Vardalos, and directed by Hanks himself-should falter in its task.

Product Description:
An amiable Navy veteran loses his comfortable job at a big-box store, enrolls in community college, and seeks to reinvent himself while falling for his apathetic speech professor in this romantic comedy re-teaming Academy Award-winning CHARLIE WILSON'S WAR co-stars Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts. Larry Crowne (Hanks) has just been downsized. The unfortunate victim of a failing economy, Larry decides that his best option to avoid becoming idle is to take some classes at his local community college. In no time, Larry befriends a colorful group of moped-obsessed outcasts on the road to self-improvement, and begins working to sharpen his communication skills in a public speaking class taught by Mercedes Tainot (Roberts). Disenchanted with her job and bored in her marriage, Mercedes has begun to feel as if she's missing out on life. But whenever she's with Larry, all of her problems seem to disappear. Now, just as Larry and Mercedes are feeling as if their lives have been put on hold, they both discover that fate sometimes has a way of giving us exactly what we need, at precisely the right time. Bryan Cranston, Cedric the Entertainer, Pam Grier, and George Takei co-star.
