It all seems trite and overly melodramatic.

Based on Rona Jaffe's trashy best-seller, this glossy Fox melodrama has an all-star cast, with Crawford as castrating boss and four appealing actresses: Hope Lange, Suzy parker, Diane Baker, and Martha Hyer.

...[With] top-billed Hope Lange giving a genuinely appealing performance....This is still a trash bash...

The Best of Everything earned Oscar nominations for Best Original Song (the title tune, warbled by Johnny Mathis) and Best Color Costume Design, though the real achievement is the splendiferous Cinemascope lensing by William C. Mellor.

Description by OLDIES.com:
A story as smart and polished as the shiny new buildings in Manhattan, this film follows the lives, loves and dreams of three young career women (Hope Lange, Suzy Parker and Diane Baker) who land jobs at a glamorous publishing company. Stephen Boyd, Brian Aherne and Robert Evans play the men in their lives. Joan Crawford plays a bitter senior editor. It's a workplace loaded with dynamite!
The Best Of Everything's CinemaScope and Deluxe color capture the fresh optimistic spirit of the young women in this film, as well as the vibrant city of New York in its most sparkling postwar beauty, where the realization of every dream seems possible.
Product Description:
Set in New York City during the 1950s, this melodrama follows the illicit affairs of several career women in the glamorous world of book-publishing. The women pay a heavy emotional price for their involvement with married men: one ends up pregnant and must make a difficult choice; another has a breakdown when she is jilted. Despite their witty repartee, the editorial staff doesn't always secure the "best of everything" in their own lives. Joan Crawford is tailor-made as the steely boss unnerved by her affair with a married man, and cult fave, former model Suzy Parker adds a glossy sheen. Based on Rona Jaffe's novel.
