Rating: 3/5 -- Esta luxuosa produção é bem-sucedida ao resgatar a grandiosidade da Ópera, mas falha justamente por permitir que seus valores técnicos transformem o Fantasma em coadjuvante.

Rating: 2.5/4 -- The cinematography remains gorgeous to this day, and the sets are pretty. It is a picture of opulence. On that front, the film remains a success Full Review

Rating: 4/5 -- If the film never goes full-tilt horror until the somewhat rushed climax, it at least manages to retain a spooky tone, and boasts a few shocks and some exciting scenes. It's rarely dull. Full Review

Description by OLDIES.com:

This spectacular retelling of Gaston Leroux's immortal horror tale stars Claude Rains as the masked phantom of the Paris opera house, a crazed composer who schemes to make a beautiful young soprano (Susanna Foster) the star of the opera company and wreak revenge on those who stole his music. Nelson Eddy, the heroic baritone, tries to win the affections of Foster as he tracks down the disfigured "monster" who has begun murdering those who resist his mad demands. This lavish color production remains a masterpiece not only of the genre, but for all time.
