Personally, I prefer Columbo... But Wilder Days is as semi-sweet and heart-lukewarming as this sort of TV movie is supposed to be.

...the bottom line is that the film never quite takes off - though there's no denying that both Falk and Daly are very effective.

precisely the sort of mild and harmlessly familiar TV schmaltz that goes down easy - and leaves nary a trace.

Product Description:
COLOMBO's Peter Falk lends his inimitable talents to the made-for-TV dramedy WILDER DAYS, a warm and funny exploration of three generations of father-son relationships. Like Edward Bloom in Tim Burton's BIG FISH, James "Pop Up" Morse (Falk) is an aging storyteller who revels in spinning tall tales of his youthful adventures in a traveling circus. But while Pop Up's larger-than-life persona has charmed his young grandson Chris (Josh Hutcherson), his propensity for embellishment has alienated his own adult son Johnnie (WINGS' Tim Daly). So in a whimsical bid to both prove himself and heal the family rift, Pop Up escapes his staid retirement home and takes Chris on a cross-country road trip that not only reaffirms the past but offers some hope of reconciliation for the future.
