Claims to be the first splatter film.

One of the masterpieces of truly feckless cinema, an epic fail of such grandeur that Ed Wood himself would be hard-pressed to do better. Worse. You know what I mean.

Once you get past the now hokey gore, there's nothing left.

Unfortunately, while it certainly broke new ground in terms of explicit gore, it isn't a very good film.

The blocky cinematography that never seems to capture what it's supposed to be looking at could almost be called avant-garde.

From the Front Row
It features some of the worst performances ever to besmeer the silver screen. These, coupled with a ridiculous plot, ludicrous special effects and several bizarre deaths make the film pass beyond the realms of 'so bad it's good' into downright hilarity.

while it might be tempting to dismiss Herschell Gordon Lewis' low-budget, utterly tawdry smorgasbord of sensationalism as dumb-assed trash, it is too self-aware to merit such dismissal. Hell, it even ends in a literal trash yard...

Description by OLDIES.com:
Nothing so appalling in the annals of horror has ever been seen before. When Mrs. Fremont hires crackpot Egyptian cultist Fuad Ramses to cater a party for her daughter, Suzette, she commits the culinary catastrophe of the century! Fuad immediately prepares a Blood Feast made from the grisly body parts of nubile young women. The world's first (and most notorious) "gore" film, Blood Feast is both shocking and hilarious. It's also the first of the infamous "blood trilogy" from director Herschell Gordon Lewis and producer Dave Friedman, who followed this perverse classic with the equally twisted Two Thousand Maniacs and Color Me Blood Red.
Product Description:
Schlock king Herschell Gordon Lewis' magnum opus about an affluent Florida suburb terrorized by Fuad Ramses, an Isis-worshipping psychopathic caterer who tries to resurrect the spirit of the goddess by preparing a ritual feast of human organs. His intended dessert is former Playboy Playmate Mason, who, during one scene, reads her lines from a script on a nearby coffee table. Arguably the first horror movie to feature explicit gore. Also features a gripping tympani score composed and performed by Lewis himself. Incalculable historical and cult value.

The 1st H.G.Lewis flick I ever saw, and I probably enjoyed it the most. Lotsa gore (The Blood is Bright Red Paint-style, in color and consistency- watch it as it pools!)Then there's Mal Arnold, and I can't say enough about That Guy. All I need say is, He has Blue Hair. BLUE HAIR. Ol' Fuad really racks up the kills as he prepares his sacrifices to Ishtar. The ending of this Classic Travesty is Most Appropriate. Gather up yer pals, some choice beverages, and enjoy this, the original Gore Flick.
