An excellent biography, just as it is a notable photoplay, dignified in subject, dramatic in treatment and brilliantly played by Paul Muni, Fritz Leiber, Josephine Hutchinson and many other members of the cast.

Expert casting and splendid production are the points in the film's favor, primarily. Paul Muni in the title role is at his very top form.

This fictionlized tale of the great French scientist belongs to a cycle of Warner biopics of great men, many of whom were played by Paul Muni, who was Oscar nominated for this part (so was the film).

Description by OLDIES.com:
Ridiculed over his theory that germs cause disease, Louis Pasteur continues his work and eventually finds a cure for anthrax. Despite the warnings of his fiercest critic, Dr. Charbonnet (Fritz Leiber), Pasteur risks imprisonment when he proceeds with the radical idea that injecting humans with the rabies virus will lead to immunization. His beliefs are soon put to the test when Charbonnet agrees to attend Pasteur's pregnant daughter (Anita Louise) but will only sterilize his instruments if the scientist agrees to sign a letter stating his hypotheses are worthless.
