Description by OLDIES.com:
Twelve-year-old Kathleen wishes her widowed father would pay more attention to family life, such as finding her a stepmother. Her father complies, getting himself engaged to an imperious beauty. It's hate at first sight for Kathleen and her new mom-to-be, who believes children should be neither seen nor heard. Dad obviously needs some help in the wife-choosing department. So Kathleen gets busy match making, trying to spark a romance between her father and her pretty young governess.

Oh my goodness, I can't believe this movie got such poor reception in theaters and has received so much criticism and negative reviews. I only got it to fill a gap in my Shirley Temple collection, but now it's one of my favorite Temple films! I was annoyed by the price, but after watching this fine film, I feel that it is easily worth that much. I'm very glad I got this!
The production quality (of the original 1941 film, not the DVD) is quite poor, and strikes me as an at least partially-amateur work, but the film is very enjoyable. It has excellent performances from the starring cast and a well written plot, imho. I should think this movies deserves to be properly colorized so younger audiences would give it a chance.
