With the limitations, [producer Joe Pasternak] has made it a pretty picture, replete with songs from the old footlight piece, complete with new lyrics and flashy production numbers. Full Review

Rating: 3/5 -- The familiar three-sailors-on-leave plotline gets a big shot in the arm in this musical, which features an outstanding cast, good production numbers, and nice visuals. Full Review

Rating: 4/5 -- The sailors-on-shore-leave theme may be familiar, but this version of the 1927 stage hit (with a totally new story) is immensely entertaining. Full Review

Description by OLDIES.com:

Hit the Deck hits all the right notes as three sailors (Tony Martin, Vic Damone, Russ Tamblyn) and three cuties (Jane Powell, Debbie Reynolds and Ann Miller) squabble, run afoul of shore patrol and, of course, fail in love to hit a parade of Vincent Youmans' tunes. Highlights include Miller's polishing the floor as "The Lady from the Bayou," Martin's romantic mastery of "More Than You Know" and the stage-filling rouse "Hallelujah."
