Biography

Formed in Milwaukee, USA, in 1957 with a line-up featuring Gilbert Moorer, Alvis Moorer and Betty Moorer. Originally conceived as a doo-wop group, the Esquires were briefly augmented by Harvey Scales before Sam Pace joined in 1961. In 1965 Betty Moorer was replaced by Shawn Taylor. The group then moved to Chicago where they signed to the Bunky label. An original song, ‘Get On Up’, was recorded with the help of Millard Edwards, who sang its distinctive bass line.
